An additional $150,000 in funding is headed to the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce to support economic development, after-school programming and job preparedness. Five organizations combined to award the funding.

The Chase Foundation awarded the largest chunk of the funding with $100,000 targeting economic development, specifically business retention and attraction efforts led by the chamber.

The remainder of the grants went to the chamber’s youth and after-school programs. The United Way of Genesee County awarded $30,000 to YouthQuest and TeenQuest. YouthQuest also received $10,000 from the Whiting Foundation, $5,000 from Herman Miller Cares, and $5,000 from Child Welfare Society.

“The chamber is committed to creating an economically vibrant future in Genesee County and preparing the region’s future workforce for success,” said Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber. “This can only be achieved with the support of our funders and many other partners, and we are grateful for their generosity.”

YouthQuest is a no-cost, after-school enrichment program for K-12 youth in Flint and Genesee County. It takes a holistic approach to learning to engage students and improve performance. It also develops skills for the workplace including teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

TeenQuest is a five-week after-school program that focuses specifically on pre-employment and leadership training.
