What you need to know if you want a job at the new Lear plant in Flint

FLINT, Michigan—Lear Corporation is creating up to 600 new jobs in Flint at a 156,000-square-foot facility being built at the former Buick City site in Flint.

The first and only job fair announced for the plant so far is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at Mott Community College Regional Technology Center, located on MCC’s main campus at 1401 E. Court Street. Click here for a campus map. 

The job fair is held in coordination with Mott’s Workforce Development Center, which will provide pre-employment training to workers hired by Lear.

Entry level base pay is $13.85 per hour—which equates to $28,808 annually, not including overtime or additional incentive pay. Second shift pays an additional 30 cents an hour. Health insurance is provided, starting the first of the month after 90 days of employment. 

All workers must pass a physical demands test, drug screen and pre-employment background check. Physically, the job requires workers be able to stand for eight- to 10-hour shifts.

Workers also must be available to work both first and second shifts as well as required overtime. Qualifications specifically note “flexibility is a must.”

Applicants also must have a high school diploma or a GED.  

The job fair is free and open to the public.
