Snow-lined roads carry the weight of ordinary days for residents on Jan. 29, 2026. Anthony Summers | Flintside

FLINT, Michigan — On Flint’s eastside residential streets, churches, commercial plazas, and vacant lots are clustered, forming a landscape that reflects both the harshness of winter and its grit. Murals and painted buildings signal past and present efforts to invest in the neighborhood’s appearance and identity, even as some structures show signs of neglect.

Rather than presenting a single story, the eastside documents how a neighborhood functions amid uneven resources and ongoing transition. It is neither frozen in time nor fully redeveloped. Instead, it continues through daily routines, local institutions, and incremental change—offering a clear, unbiased view of one part of Flint as it exists today.

Here’s a brief winter look at Flint’s east side.
