90 teens graduate from TeenQuest’s first in-person graduation since 2020

Following two years of virtual learning due to COVID-19, nearly 90 high school students had their first in-person graduation from TeenQuest’s pre-employment and leadership training program.

FLINT, Michigan — On Thursday, March 24, nearly 90 high school students, ages 14-19, had their first in-person graduation from TeenQuest’s pre-employment and leadership training program. Following two years of virtual programming due to COVID-19, TeenQuest students attended a graduation ceremony at Grand Blanc High School Auditorium — East Campus, located at 12500 Holly Road, Grand Blanc, MI.

The TeenQuest graduates spent five weeks developing and learning critical skills to gain and maintain employment. Through hands-on activities and soft skill training, nearly 90 high school students studied communication, conflict resolution, resume writing, and job interview preparedness.

James Avery, Vice President of Education & Training, Flint & Genesee Chamber, provided opening remarks, followed by students’ speeches and the graduation ceremony. After the ceremony, interviews with the TeenQuest graduates and their families were conducted.

Following their graduation from the TeenQuest program, a private invitational job fair will happen in April with participating employers from the Summer Youth Initiative, SYI. In addition, SYI helps fund and coordinate the employment of TeenQuest graduates at area non- and for-profit organizations each summer.

TeenQuest and SYI are administered by Flint & Genesee Education & Talent and made possible with the support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and other generous funders.
