The Genesee Intermediate School District launches search to fill Board of Education vacancy

FLINT, Michigan — Following the resignation of James Avery, effective Jan. 12, due to other commitments, Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is accepting applications for those interested in becoming a member of the GISD’s Board of Education.

The GISD supports all 21 local school districts and 15 public school academies within Genesee County by providing educational services and programs. Those services and programs provided by GISD also include special education, career, and technical education, early childhood, and early middle college programming.

Serving as a liaison between local districts, public schools, and the Michigan Department of Education, the GISD Board of Education aims to select a candidate to fill the seat in a thorough but public process aligned with the Revised School Code Section 380.614 and GISD Board of Education Policy 0142.5.

Candidates must submit a one-page letter of application and a resume to the GISD Superintendents Office by 4:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 28, and be registered voter who lives within the 21 school district service area.

All interviews and meetings related to filling the vacant board seat are open to the public. Those who apply will be interviewed in person at the Legacy Auditorium at the GISD Erwin L. Davis Education Center located at 2413 West Maple Avenue in Flint, Michigan.

Interviews will be booked for Wednesday, Feb. 2 with members of the GISD Board of Education selecting the finalist following the completion of all interviews. The chosen candidate will serve the remainder of the vacated term set to expire on June 30, 2023.
