Sherrema A. Oom-Dove

Sherrema A. Oom-Dove is a Flintstone, born and raised, having grown up on Raskob Street in the Ballenger Square Community, near Ballenger, Mott, and Civic Parks. She has been involved in community journalism since she was a founding member of Word Up, the Flint Journal's teen page, in 1991. 

She enjoys reading and writing about happenings in the local arts community and Flint history and her articles and reviews have appeared in East Village Magazine, Flint Beat, Flint Stages, and other publications. After graduating with her Associate of Arts from Mott Community College ('02) and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan-Flint ('07), she moved away to obtain her Master of American Studies at Purdue University ('09) and doctoral degree in Social Anthropology at the University of Otago ('16). She lived in other cities, states, and countries before returning to her hometown roots.

Recently, she was a Grants Specialist for Out-of-School-Time programs in Flint/Genesee County. Currently, she is obtaining her Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) at Wayne State University. Sherrema may be found at the Flint Public Library, Dorothy's House of Coffee, or the Flint Farmers' Market, where she is the proud adopter of the Rainbow Garden with Keep Genesee County Beautiful (KGCB). She also enjoys kayaking at Thread Lake and other area waterways and walking our region's nature trails.
