FLINT, Michigan — The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) has taken a new step to support students' post-graduation success by launching Beyond Grad, a new website dedicated to career and college planning.
This resource, available online at
www.BeyondGrad.org, aims to serve Genesee County residents ages 14 to 26, offering a wealth of information to guide young people as they navigate crucial decisions for their futures.
The concept for Beyond Grad arose from a need identified by the GISD’s Career Development Task Force which was established in 2018 to focus on student and family career planning resources.
“Students who graduated from high school did not have a place to get questions answered about jobs, financial resources, and college opportunities. A one-stop shop did not exist for students in high school either to access all of the items that will help them as they make choices during and after high school,” said Diana Allard, Executive Director of Career & Technical Education at GISD.
Designed with various educational pathways in mind, Beyond Grad provides tools and resources for a broad range of post-secondary pursuits, including traditional college paths, skilled trades, and apprenticeship programs.
Additionally, the website includes tailored support for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans, offering transition planning that meets unique educational needs. Allard explains, “Students with special needs and their families are able to learn about resources for continuing education specifically in existence to meet their special needs.”
GISD has worked closely with a network of community partners to ensure the platform reflects the current demands and opportunities within the region. This collaborative approach not only strengthens the resource but also ensures it stays relevant to today’s rapidly changing workforce.

“We have received great feedback from our counselors and administrators across the county for creating a space that they can share and point their families to that is always up to date with information to help them find out about their next career steps,” Allard notes.
One key feature of Beyond Grad is its comprehensive approach to financial planning for education. The website aggregates information on scholarships, financial aid, and local funding sources, making it easier for families to explore affordable options.
Allard highlights that “links around employment and apprenticeships along with the hot jobs in our area seem to be very well received.”
As for its longevity, GISD has committed to maintaining Beyond Grad as a current and adaptable resource, and keeping the website updated with fresh content is a priority. “GISD has a team who will be adding new resources as they are made available to the website,” says Allard.
With a user-friendly interface and resources aimed at empowering students to make informed choices, Beyond Grad stands as a step forward in GISD’s commitment to student success. The district encourages all eligible Genesee County residents to explore Beyond Grad and make use of its valuable planning tools.
