FLINT, Michigan — The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) has initiated the process to fill a recently vacated seat on its Board of Education, following the retirement of long-serving board member Larry P. Ford.
As the District embarks on this critical task, it has announced a transparent and inclusive selection process, ensuring that the new board member will be well-positioned to support the District's mission of delivering high-quality educational services across Genesee County.
The GISD provides a broad range of educational programs and services that support 21 local school districts and 14 public school academies within Genesee County. These programs include special education, career and technical education, early childhood development, and early middle college programming.
As a regional service agency, the GISD also serves as a crucial link between the local school districts, public school academies, and the Michigan Department of Education.
To be eligible for the vacant seat, candidates must be registered voters residing within the GISD's 21-school district service area. The application process requires interested individuals to submit a one-page letter of application along with a one-page resume.
These materials must be received by the GISD Superintendent’s Office no later than 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

The selection process for the new board member will be conducted openly, with all interviews and meetings related to the vacancy being accessible to the public.
The interviews are scheduled to take place during a special Board of Education meeting on Monday, September 16, 2024, at the GISD Erwin L. Davis Education Center in Flint. The Board is expected to make its decision and select the new member immediately following the interviews.
