Ferris State University’s Flint Hub to host free panel event on sustainable entrepreneurship, June 2

FLINT, Michigan — Aspiring entrepreneurs, business owners, and students are invited to a free panel event designed to spark conversations about business resilience, creativity, and long-term success. ‘Service Alchemy: Turning Moments into Business Gold’ will take place Monday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:00 p.m.) at the MCC Event Center.

Hosted by Ferris State University’s Flint Hub, the event will feature both local and national entrepreneurs sharing their hard-won insights on building and sustaining businesses through change and challenge. 

Panelists include Alex and Natalie Kadie, owners of Eight Ten Nail Bar (Flint, MI), 
Nate Brown, chef and owner of Elements Modern Kitchen & Cocktails (Flint, MI), and Terrill Patterson, owner of Rellies Hospitality (Atlanta, GA).

As one of five regional hubs expanding Ferris State University’s reach beyond its main campus, the Flint Hub partners with Mott Community College and other regional institutions to bring degree access and support directly into the community. But the mission goes beyond academics, says Rachel Reeves Thelemaque, Director of Operations at the Ferris Flint Hub.

“Ferris is in Flint — and we’re not just here, we’re engaged,” she explains. “Service Alchemy was born from that same mission of meeting people where they are. It’s a space for real conversations about entrepreneurship, featuring voices who know what it takes to build, sustain, and lead with impact.”

The event’s lineup includes seasoned entrepreneurs with proven track records of navigating disruption and sustaining their businesses over time. Reeves Thelemaque says the panel was curated with intention — not just to inspire, but to equip.

“Each panelist brings something uniquely valuable to the conversation,” she says. “I was intentional about choosing individuals who’ve been in business or their industry for a while. These panelists bring the strategies behind longevity, and attendees will walk away with lessons they can actually apply.”

With a long history of resourcefulness and innovation, Flint’s entrepreneurial spirit is deeply rooted. ‘Service Alchemy‘ aims to build on that legacy by offering access to the kinds of insights that often remain behind closed doors.

“We want students, aspiring business owners, and community members to leave with something practical,” Reeves Thelemaque says, “whether that’s a mindset shift, a new connection, or a concrete next step.”

Light refreshments will be offered, and although the event is free and open to the public, attendees are encouraged to RSVP at the registration link.
