Fiesta Mexicana returns to Our Lady of Guadalupe Flint for 62nd year

FLINT, Michigan — Flint’s own Our Lady of Guadalupe is home to one of the largest celebrations of Latinx culture in Michigan: The annual Fiesta Mexicana, now in its 62nd year. 

The free, two-day event is an opportunity for the whole family to experience the depth of Latin American culture through art, entertainment and food, organizers said. 

“We invite the community to join us for the 62nd Annual Fiesta Mexicana. Our community is proud of our culture and want our friends in Flint, Genesee County and Mid-Michigan to experience the richness of the Hispanic culture,” said Tòmas Tello, member of the Fiesta Mexicana Planning Committee. 

Hosted by Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and located on church grounds, Fiesta Mexicana this year falls on June 29 and 30, 2019. 

The event will feature the music of La Furia Del Ritmo from Grand Rapids, Los Hermanos Escamilla from Chesaning, Los Estrellas De Oro from Grand Rapids, and Gabriel Burciaga & The Bad Boyz from Adrian as well as lots of cultural exhibitions, vendors, and Mass in Spanish. 

A fan favorite is and always has been, the food. Authentic Mexican and Latin-American cuisine is a main attraction for many fiesta-goers. It includes delights such as tacos and tamales, of course, but also pan de dulce and sweet bread. 

Mariachi style presentations will also be performed throughout the weekend by El Ballet Folklórico Estudiantil, a youth-arts program focused on preserving the Mexican culture. 

Fiesta Mexicana is 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, June 30, 2019. For more information, see its Facebook event.
