FIM to host 2nd Annual DJ Battle at Capitol Theatre
FIM’s DJ Battle returns to the Capitol Theatre, spotlighting local DJs and Flint music culture.

FLINT, Michigan — Flint Under the Stars will return to the FIM Capitol Theatre with its 2nd Annual DJ Battle on Wednesday, May 20 at 7 p.m.
The event will feature reigning champion DJ SicMusiq, who will defend his title against three local DJs from across mid-Michigan. The competition will include multiple rounds, with performers evaluated by both the audience and a panel of judges. Hosted by CJ the DJ, the night invites attendees to dance, participate, and help decide who will be named the 2026 FIM Mix Maestro.
Among this year’s competitors is DJ Smuvi, one of two women participating in the battle. For Smuvi, performing on the Capitol Theatre stage represents both a personal milestone and a broader moment for women in DJ culture.

“Being presented with the opportunity to be on the FIM Capitol stage is a huge milestone. Not only for me, but for female DJs in general,” Smuvi said. “To stand where the greats have stood is not something that I take lightly. For it to be for a good cause makes it rewarding all the more.”
Smuvi said Flint’s DJ culture continues to evolve, and she sees herself as part of preserving and growing the craft locally. Through teaching others the fundamentals of DJing, she hopes to ensure the art form remains visible in the city.
“I would love for the audience to gain a stronger understanding and appreciation for DJing as an art form,” Smuvi said. “I think a lot of times the art of it gets overlooked because we provide services. This is an opportunity for the city to see that DJs in the area truly have a passion for the craft.”
FIM Community Programs echoed that the event is part of a broader effort to create professional performance opportunities for local artists.
“This show and the entire Flint Under the Stars series give local musicians an opportunity to expand their audiences and gain the experience of performing in a venue like the Capitol Theatre,” FIM Community Programs said in a statement. “FIM’s community programs team is dedicated to bringing diverse performing arts experiences to Flint and Genesee County.”
Flint Under the Stars is a monthly concert series held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Capitol Theatre.
Tickets are donate-what-you-wish, with a $5 minimum donation per ticket required at registration. Proceeds benefit KidsTix, a program that helps children and families access live performances.
