FLINT, Michigan — The Flint City Bucks recently announced the new addition of the renowned women’s side Corktown AFC. The team will be relocated and rebranded as Flint City AFC and the games will play in USL W League at Kettering’s Atwood Stadium this summer.

The acquisition of the team introduces a new partnership between the Bucks and Corktown AFC founder and owner, Eddie Hudson, who is also an attorney and businessman from metropolitan Detroit. “We are very excited to join Flint City to make this happen,” said Hudson. “We have watched this fanbase and supporter group grow, and we know they will love the energy, grit, and skill that our ladies will bring to Flint.”

Costa Papista, President of Flint City AFC, is also excited about the new partnership with Hudson and the launch of the women’s league in Flint. “Starting a women’s side has always been on our radar and the timing of USL W League’s launch is ideal for our organization,” said Papista. “We know that our supporters will be excited as they have been strongly encouraging us to make this a reality.”

Betsy Haugh, Director of USL Women’s Soccer Operation, is looking forward to seeing what the team will accomplish in the league’s inaugural season. “The club’s vision to offer more opportunities to athletes in Flint and its surrounding cities perfectly aligns with the mission of the W League to provide a pathway to the professional game for players across the nation.”

Set to kick off in May 2022, The USL W League is comprised of top clubs from across USL Championship, League One, and League Two. The regional teams in close proximity to Flint and Genesee County that USL W has announced so far include AFC Ann Arbor, Detroit City FC, Grand Rapids-based Midwest United FC, Indy Eleven, Cincinnati-based Kings Hammer FC, and Louisville City.
