FLINT, Michigan – Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley announced this week that the city of Flint would send its street sweepers to residential neighborhoods for the first time in approximately seven years. The sweepers will clean up more than 300 miles of local roads throughout the rest of the summer, with mid-September as the goal to finish.

The city will also be using a tanker truck to spray down road surfaces and break up layers of dirt before the street sweepers come through.

“We are cleaning up the City of Flint, and we are proud of it,” Neeley said in a news release. “This is another important piece in our effort to fight blight. While we continue hammering away everyday at the larger issues, we also recognize we have an ability to make an immediate impact by reintroducing street sweeping.”

The city also announced that Flint City Hall will partially reopen to the public, beginning on Wednesday, August 19, as part of its phased-in reopening plan. The customer service department and City Hall lobby will reopen with limited hours, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., for residents who need services including water filters, water test kits, to make cash payments, water service reconnections, and other customer service issues. However, all city offices can still be reached by phone or email and some are available for residents to make appointments.

There is also a red drop box at the front doors of City Hall where residents can make payments by check or drop off documents.

Consent forms for service line replacement also will be available at the front desk of Flint City Hall for any residences that have not yet had their water pipes replaced. The deadline for submitting forms is Sept. 18, 2020.

There will be limited capacity inside City Hall and social distancing will be strictly enforced. Proper signage and barriers have been installed as well as a check-in area.
