Flint’s neighborhood summit will address census 2020, small grants program, and neighborhood mapping

FLINT, Michigan—The Community Foundation of Greater Flint’s Neighborhood Small Grants Program welcomes the community to attend its 10th annual Connect the Blocks Flint Neighborhood Summit on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

 

Neighborhood groups across the city will have access to community resources, networking, and inspire changes for their own neighborhoods. Those that attend will learn about the Neighborhood Small Grants Program from the Community Foundation, the 2020 census, and participate in a neighborhood mapping project.

 

“Funding for beautification efforts has happened over the past three years under the leadership of Willie Smith of the West Pulaski Street Block Club,” said Mary Jo Herbig, director of communications for the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. “ A $900 small grant supported lawn equipment and solar LED lights. A $1,000 grant brought the block club together for a summer celebration. And a $5,000 grant built the shed that houses the equipment, tables, chairs, and a pop-up pavilion for meetings, events, and training sessions.”

 

This year the vendors include the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, Edible Flint, the Neighborhood Engagement Hub, the Flint Registry, Greater Flint Health Coalition, University of Michigan-Flint, the Sloan Museum, the Genesee Conservation District, Crim Fitness Foundation, the City of Flint, North Flint Neighborhood Action Council, Hamilton Community Health Network, among others.

 

Connect the Blocks Flint Neighborhood Summit is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Hunger Solutions Center at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
