Flintside to host community listening session at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library
Flintside invites residents to a community listening session to help shape future local coverage.

FLINT, Michigan — Flintside will host an in-person community listening session later this month, inviting residents and community leaders to help shape future coverage through its “On the Ground” series.
The series highlights residents leading improvements and driving transformation at the grassroots level. It centers on stories of entrepreneurship, youth voices, lived experience, blight reduction, local events, and neighborhood revitalization through this initiative.
The session will take place on April 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Harris Room at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library, designed as a collaborative space where participants can share what they’re seeing in their neighborhoods, organizations, and day-to-day work — and highlight stories, people, and ideas that deserve more attention.
“This is about listening to the community and making sure our reporting reflects what matters most right now,” said Managing Editor Xzavier Simon.
Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with one or two ideas, whether that’s a project, issue, or person making an impact locally. The idea is that a single idea or connection can help inform future storytelling, especially when paired with context about why it matters and who is involved.
The event is intentionally informal, with light refreshments served, and with a focus on open dialogue and idea-sharing rather than formal presentations. Flintside staff will use the feedback to guide ongoing and future reporting, while also keeping suggestions in mind for longer-term coverage.
