Get a taste of C.S. Mott's heirloom apples during Fall Harvest Festival at Applewood

FLINT, Michigan—A day packed full of events celebrating the unique sights, sounds and tastes of Applewood are planned for the annual Fall Harvest Festival on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Visitors can sample apples grown in the heritage apple orchard for which Applewood is named and participate in many activities that celebrate Applewood’s history. The historic barn and chicken coop will house farm animals, just as they did when the Mott family lived at Applewood. Tours of the historic home also will be offered with no reservations necessary.

The free family event is 11 a.m until 5 p.m. Visitors will be able to tour the grounds and gardens of Applewood, enjoy cider and apple tasting and take in some songs by Riley McLincha (aka Johnny Appleseed). Drumming workshops with The Kuungana African Drum and Dance Company are set for 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on the front lawn.

A live pumpkin carving presentation with local chef/artist Marcus Eubanks can be taken in or head over to the historic barn to see a multitude of farm animals including bunnies, chickens, calves, and horses.

Interactive farm activities, children outdoor games, educational presentations by local organizations and so much more will be available for all to enjoy.

The farm- and harvest-themed activities weave together the work Applewood and the Ruth Mott Foundation are carrying out today along with the legacy of Charles Stewart Mott and his way of life at his family home in Flint.
