For this year's
On the Ground program, Flintside is currently reporting in the Ballenger Highway Neighborhood in Flint, and we are excited to announce our fifth Flintside Journalism Fellowship. The fellowship will equip residents with basic journalism skills and tools to tell their own stories as community correspondents.
The application period is now open for Ballenger Highway residents interested in a paid opportunity to attend journalism workshops, receive a free laptop, connect with mentors, and ultimately publish an article and receive payment as a freelancer with Flintside during the fellowship.
Ballenger Highway residents interested in the opportunity can
fill out an application online. The deadline for consideration is October 15, 2023.
Once selected for the program, participants will attend workshops led by Flintside staff, learn from guest speakers, and be given a basic overview of news writing, community-level journalism, interviewing skills, and more.
The ultimate goal is to raise up voices of residents, tell new and previously untold stories, and offer long-term paid freelance opportunities for residents who complete the program and are interested in publishing more articles on topics that impact Flint and its residents.
The goal is to launch the program in late October or early November. For more information, contact
