FLINT, Michigan — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County is gearing up for its 19th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mentoring Inspiration Breakfast, a community tradition that honors Dr. King's legacy through a celebration of mentorship, volunteerism, and service. Scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20, at St. Michael’s Conference Center in Downtown Flint, the event will begin at 9:00 a.m., with registration opening at 8:30 a.m.
This year’s program features James Avery, Genesee County Commissioner and CEO of Berston Field House, as the Master of Ceremony, and a keynote address from Flint native Mama Sōl, a celebrated artist and community advocate known for her inspirational performances and activism.
What began as a tribute to Dr. King's vision of service has grown into a cornerstone event for National Mentoring Month, attracting over 100 supporters annually. The breakfast aligns with key mentoring milestones such as “I’m a Mentor Day” which took place on Jan. 9 and “Thank Your Mentor Day” which happens on Jan. 25. It aims to highlight the power of mentorship and the importance of positive relationships in shaping the future.
Attendees will include “Bigs” and “Littles” from the program, community leaders, civic organizations, and volunteers. Together, they will celebrate the successes of mentoring initiatives and reaffirm their commitment to empowering local youth.
Tickets for the event are $20 and available online at BBBS Flint’s event page. To learn more about the efforts of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County, visit: bbbsflint.org
