Flint area celebration of MLK Day starts with Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring breakfast

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County will celebrate the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. through its 13th Annual Mentoring Inspiration Breakfast on Monday, January 21, 2019.

January is National Mentoring Month and 2019 marks the 17th year of National Mentor Month. There are several important dates within National Mentor Month. The purpose of the annual Mentoring Inspiration Breakfast is to celebrate King’s legacy by promoting mentorship and service in our community.

Civil rights Prosecutor Charles E. Coleman Jr. will be the keynote speaker for this year’s event. Coleman is often featured on CNN, MSNBC and other networks for his insights on law, race, politics and social and criminal justice. When Coleman found a lack of support for programs across the country in urban communities, he began searching for a solution to the problems they were facing and began building a mentorship program for African American and Latino boys in Brooklyn, New York. Coleman is also the founder of the nonprofit organization CFC40.

The Annual Mentoring Inspiration Breakfast is Monday, January 21, 2019 at Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy headquarters, 4100 S. Saginaw St in Flint.  Registration is 8-8:30 a.m. with the program beginning promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Lawrence E. Moon will serve as the breakfast’s master of ceremony
