FLINT, Michigan—Every new mom deserves to be showered with love and support, and St. Luke NEW Life Center is hosting its annual community baby shower to make sure they are.
Open to expecting moms and those with infants age 6 months and younger, St. Luke’s Annual Baby Shower arms moms and moms-to-be with all the essentials as well as resources and education.
“What we’ve heard is a lot of women have never had a baby shower,” said Julie Chuchvara, program manager at St. Luke NEW Life Center. “It’s just something special. It helps make them feel better about having a baby, feel more prepared.”
This year’s annual shower is 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at St. Luke NEW Life Center, with breakfast and lunch provided and educational sessions in between. Those interested in attending are asked to register in advance.
During the baby shower, tables are filled to overflowing with diaper bags, multiple sizes of diapers, thermometers, baby clothes, and baby care items. Plus, those attending have the chance to win high chairs, cribs, and walkers.
Some women that attend these baby showers have little to no baby supplies at all, Chuchvara said.
St. Luke partners with Warm Hearts Organization to provide support to new mothers at no cost.
Representatives from Voices for Children Advocacy Center, Women Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program and Successful Kids=Involved Parents (SKIP) will help lead the educational sessions on topics including breastfeeding, brain development, child self esteem, nutrition, and baby safe sleep.
