The Valley Area Agency on Aging (VAAA) and Neighborhood Cinema Group (NCG) are set to host a dementia-friendly movie event featuring the classic musical “Meet Me in St. Louis” starring Judy Garland. The event will take place on Monday, Jan. 13, at NCG Trillium Cinema in Grand Blanc from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This initiative is designed to create a welcoming and supportive environment tailored to individuals with dementia and their care partners. The event focuses on inclusivity and comfort, ensuring that everyone can fully enjoy the experience.
What to expect:- Film screening: The beloved 1944 musical "Meet Me in St. Louis" (Rated G) will transport attendees to a simpler time with its charming story and unforgettable songs.
- Adjustments for comfort: Theater lights will remain dimly lit, and the sound levels will be slightly reduced to accommodate sensory sensitivities.
- Social hour: Before the movie, attendees can mingle and make new friends, fostering a sense of community.
- Interactive fun: The screening will include sing-along opportunities, moments to clap along, and even chances to dance to the film’s classic tunes.
- Refreshments: Popcorn and other snacks will be available for purchase to complete the movie-going experience.
