Grant to provide free dental care to 120 Flint area seniors

FLINT, Michigan — A $1,500 grant will allow local senior citizens to get a free dental cleaning and checkup at Mott Community College.

The grant from the Delta Dental Foundation will pay for 120 seniors to get checkups through a partnership between Mott Community College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic and the Valley Area Agency on Aging.

Any senior patient who schedules a cleaning with MCC Dental Hygiene Clinic has the opportunity to take advantage of the grant.

“The MCC partnership with the VAAA to give senior citizens access to free dental cleanings and checkups is a win-win,” said Tara Spencer, Coordinator of the Dental Hygiene program at MCC. “Our students benefit from the hands-on experience of working directly with senior-aged patients, and the seniors receive important dental health care.”

Services being offered include oral exams, cleaning and polishing, periodontal debridement, fluoride treatment, nutritional assessment, periodontal evaluation, patient education, and dental charting. All services provided through the grant come at no cost to patients.

The MCC Dental Hygiene Clinic is similar to any other dental office. It uses high-tech digital radiography, intraoral cameras, and high-quality health professionals. For information or to schedule an appointment, call (810) 410-1906 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
