FLINT, Michigan — The Flint Institute of Arts (FIA) is set to host the 'Brilliant Minds Symposium' on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in FIA’s Isabell Hall. The interactive workshop will explore the link between cognitive health and the arts.
With an optional boxed lunch offered at noon, the engaging and art-focused experience will be led by both artists and clinicians as they offer insight into how creativity can improve self-esteem, social interaction, and overall well-being while benefiting brain and body health.
The day will be split into a morning and afternoon segment. The morning session is tailored for caregivers and partners supporting individuals with dementia and other chronic conditions.
The afternoon session welcomes the broader community to explore the impact of the arts on brain health and how integrating artistic activities into daily life can promote cognitive wellness.
Participants will enjoy a range of creative experiences such as poetry writing, mural creation, music, and dance. These activities provide an immersive and energizing opportunity to explore the arts.
After the afternoon session, attendees can experience art-making demonstrations in hot glass work, ceramics, printmaking, neuropathic watercolor painting, and take part in gallery tours.
The symposium aims to help participants tap into their creative potential while highlighting the proven benefits of art on mental sharpness, relationship building, and overall life quality.
Whether seeking to improve cognitive function, strengthen connections with others, or reignite passions, this event offers something for everyone. No artistic experience is needed — just an openness to explore.
