Flint launches 'Love Your City' Month in May to spark community cleanup and pride

FLINT, Michigan — The City of Flint is calling on residents to roll up their sleeves and pitch in for a cleaner, greener community this spring. Throughout May 2025, the city will host its annual 'Love Your City Month' — a community-wide beautification initiative aimed at revitalizing neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces across Flint.

The campaign, led in partnership with Keep Genesee County Beautiful, invites individuals, block clubs, and local organizations to organize or participate in cleanup efforts. Free supplies — including garbage bags, yard waste bags, and cotton work gloves — will be available to those tackling public spaces such as schoolyards, parks, and medians. Supplies can be requested by calling Keep Genesee County Beautiful at (810) 767-9696.

“Getting involved is as close as your curb,” said Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley. “Together, we can show love for our city by taking pride in our homes, blocks, and shared spaces. I encourage every Flint resident to participate in this month-long effort to beautify our community.”

To support the cleanup push, the city will offer three weeks of special curbside collection services in May:
  • May 5–9: Unlimited large item pickup (excluding items like appliances with freon, tires, and demolition debris).
  • May 12–16: Unlimited bagged trash pickup (bags must be under 50 pounds).
  • May 19–23: Unlimited bundled brush pickup (bundles under 4 feet long and 50 pounds, tied with twine or rope).
All items must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on residents’ regular collection days. Standard compost pickup will continue as scheduled.

Registered block clubs and community groups can also apply to host official neighborhood cleanups. For more information or to register, contact the Office of Blight Elimination at (810) 237-2090.
