Community gathers to 'GLOW' for Hurley Children's Hospital this holiday season

FLINT, Michigan — After a four-year hiatus, a community tradition is returning, to bring light and joy to the young patients at Hurley Children’s Hospital. On Thursday, Dec. 12, residents are invited to join the 'GLOW' event to show their support for children in the Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) during the holiday season.

Participants will gather behind the hospital at 6:00 PM, armed with glow sticks, flashlights, or light sabers, to send a visible message of love and encouragement to the young patients. Children in the hospital will respond by shining their own glow sticks from their windows to show gratitude.

First responders will also join in with their vehicle lights on, and Santa Claus himself might make an appearance. While Hurley will distribute a limited number of glow sticks, attendees are encouraged to bring their own to ensure everyone can participate.

The free event also offers an opportunity to support the hospital’s programs with donations of new books, crafts, games, and $50 gift cards, which will be collected by the Child and Family Life Services team at the entrance of the parking structure.
