Locals encouraged to ‘Be a Tourist’ in Flint & Genesee on May 10

FLINT, Michigan — On Saturday, May 10, residents of Genesee County will have the chance to rediscover the city through a day of free access to more than 20 local attractions and restaurants during 'Be a Tourist in Your Hometown.'

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and invites locals to explore some of Flint’s most popular landmarks like the Flint Children’s Museum, Whaley Historic House Museum, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church alongside newer ventures and hidden gems.

“This year, we are hosting our flagship event on May 10 to cap off National Travel & Tourism Week and kick off the festival and events season in Flint & Genesee,” said Amari Steward, executive director of Explore Flint & Genesee, the organization behind the event. “We want to show that spirit to our residents as well!”

Participants will receive a 'Be a Tourist Passport' and wristband which provide free entry to participating attractions. Thanks to the Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) Flint, attendees can hop on free shuttle buses departing from Brush Park in downtown Flint to reach various destinations.

“There are so many unique places to take your friends, family, and out-of-town guests in Flint & Genesee,” Steward added. “Come out and discover what’s in your hometown! You’re sure to find something you love.”

Free parking will be available downtown, including on-street spots, the Rutherford Parking Ramp, and select attraction locations.

Day-of registration will be available at Brush Park and the Sloan Museum of Discovery. While the event is free, pre-registration is encouraged at ExploreFlintandGenesee.org/BAT.
