FLINT, Michigan — In an effort to ensure a healthy and thriving community,
Hamilton Community Health Network proudly provides compassionate and comprehensive healthcare to all. As the largest federally qualified health center in Genesee County, Hamilton has eight clinics, over 200 employees, and a network of specialty providers.
To celebrate National Health Center Week, Hamilton is hosting a lineup of free, family-friendly events to raise awareness, connect with resources, and encourage community togetherness from Aug. 8-11.
Allie McKenzie, marketing and communications specialist at Hamilton Community Health Network, is new to the organization and will be experiencing the annual event for the first time. She says the week’s events are part of a larger, national effort.
“National Health Center Week is recognized nationwide through the National Health Center Organization,” says McKenzie. “It celebrates the community that health centers bring. Because we’re federally funded, we can provide services to the less fortunate community, and it puts our services out there to let people know we’re here, and celebrates that.”
The event kicks off on Tuesday, Aug. 8 with the Healthcare for the Homeless Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“At that event, we will have laundry services, free food, we’re giving out clothing, hosting giveaways,” says McKenzie. “People can talk to some of our service providers at Hamilton-Flint Clinic downtown, right above Center for Hope (800 Root St.)”
Wednesday, Aug. 9 is the Food Giveaway Day at North Pointe Clinic (5710 Clio Rd.) from 10 a.m. to noon.
“This is a free event, open to the public, that will have lots of fun activities like games, and the Kona Ice truck will be there,” says McKenzie. “There will also be fresh food boxes from
Flint Fresh, so people can show up, go shopping, pick up their own fresh food and take it home with them.”
The final event is the Family Fun Day event on Friday, Aug. 11 at the Hamilton Main Clinic (2900 N. Saginaw St.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Family Fun Day is the big event of the week,” says McKenzie. “This is another free event, where all of our sponsors throughout the week will have tables, and we’ll have extra vendors as well. Not only do you get our presence, but a lot of other community partners will be present, too. To bring people out, we have bounce houses, free food, music, games, and giveaways.”
Prizes like a T.V., bikes, gift cards, and other freebies will be given away. Although it’s a popular annual event for many families in the Flint area, this will be McKenzie’s first time attending, and she’s excited to witness the community come together throughout the week.
“I’ve invited my whole family to come out,” she says. “It’s something to bring the community together. It’s called Family Fun Day, and it really is to bring the family together to have fun for the day.”
