Teens to interview for summer jobs through Summer Youth Initiative job fair

FLINT, Michigan — On Saturday, April 30, more than 220 Genesee County high school student graduates from TeenQuest will attend an invite-only Summer Youth Initiative (SYI) job fair.

TeenQuest is a pre-employment and leadership training program that provides soft skills and job-readiness coaching. The 220+ high school students, ages 14-19, will interview with perspectives businesses and non-profits for summer jobs at the Genesee Career Insititute located at 5081 Torrey Road in Flint.

Incentives for for-profit businesses that hire SYI students include being eligible to receive a 50-50 salary match for the first 90 days of student's employment. In addition, non-profits can receive a 100 percent reimbursement of the student wages.

James Avery, Director of talent development at Flint & Genesee Education & Talent, will be in attendance and over a dozen employers. Some of the local businesses and non-profits participating, include Asbury Community Development Corporation, Beecher Community School District, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County, and Communities First, Inc. to name a few.

TeenQuest and SYI are programs of Flint & Genesee Education & Talent, a division of Flint & Genesee Group, and made possible through the support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
