FLINT, Michigan — On Tuesday, August 13, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., the
Valley Area Agency on Aging (VAAA) will be hosting a special workshop titled 'Nutrition As We Age' at the Edible Flint Educational Farm, located at 1628 Beach Street. The event aims to educate senior citizens about the importance of nutrition as we age and how to maintain a healthy diet to support overall well-being.
The workshop will include a tour of the Edible Flint Educational Farm where participants will explore the farm's wide array of vegetables, herbs, and fruits, all grown to promote sustainable and healthy eating.
Attendees will learn about the specific nutritional needs that arise with age, including how dietary choices can impact energy levels, bone health, and cognitive function. The session will also provide practical tips on incorporating nutrient-rich foods into daily meals.
As the workshop will be held outdoors, participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather. The educational farm provides an ideal setting to connect with nature and understand the source of the food that plays a crucial role in maintaining health, especially as we age.
Although the 'Nutrition As We Age' workshop is free, registration is required. Find the
registration form here.
This workshop follows a series of educational events hosted by Edible Flint. In April, the farm held a 'Spring Gardening Basics Workshop' which focused on teaching participants essential gardening skills. Attendees learned about soil and nutrient basics, planting and caring for transplants and seeds, using tools and equipment, and planning garden sites for success.
The Valley Area Agency on Aging continues to support the local community by offering workshops and events that promote healthy lifestyles. For more information, visit: valleyareaaging.org or call: (810) 239-7671.
