Pastor George WilkinsonFLINT, Michigan—With song, laughs, and a lot of love, Word of Life Christian Church marked its 10-year anniversary with a community gala attended by several hundred people.
“Word of Life would not be where it is today, if we didn’t have visionary partners who were instruments of God. They were God’s angels. I just want to say thank you with all my heart,” Pastor George Wilkinson said during the event at Genesys Banquet Center.
The celebration included church trivia, a comedian, a motivational speaker, awards for service, a video, a proclamation from the state House of Representatives presented by Reps. Sheldon Neeley and Jim Ananich, and words of congratulations from other pastors.
William Pickard, chairman and CEO of Global Automotive Alliance, delivered keynote remarks and gave special praise to the Wilkinson family for their work in the church and in the community. Pickard, a prominent Detroit businessman and Flint native, provided key support to help establish Word of Life Christian Church.
“What is so beautiful about this journey is when you have a certain leader who walks the walk and talks the talk—all these trials and tribulations are a lot easier. You have such a man and such a family as the head of your church,” Pickard said. “When I meet a person that epitomoizes the essence of goodness and greatness, it fills my heart with joy.”
A special honor also was given to first lady Sophia Wilkinson for her commitment and service to the church.
