InvolvedDad’s IMPACT program helps Flint fathers build stronger families and legacies
InvolvedDad’s IMPACT program helps Flint fathers heal, grow, and lead; building stronger families and legacies across the community.

FLINT, Michigan — When Shon Hart talks about fatherhood, he speaks from both passion and purpose. Through InvolvedDad’s IMPACT program, Hart has been helping Flint-area fathers overcome personal and systemic barriers to being present in their children’s lives — one session, one story, and one transformation at a time.
Launched to strengthen families and equip fathers with tools for leadership and growth, IMPACT focuses on more than parenting skills. It’s designed, as Hart puts it, “to walk alongside fathers who are facing barriers in being present and engaged with their children.”
“The program focuses on personal development, parenting skills, and accountability, helping men heal from their own challenges so they can show up differently for their families,” he said. “It’s not just about teaching parenting techniques; it’s about equipping fathers to become leaders, role models, and consistent figures in their children’s lives.”
Once enrolled, participants moved through intake and orientation before diving into weekly group sessions on topics like communication, co-parenting, emotional regulation, and financial responsibility. Each father also received individualized coaching tailored to his goals. By graduation, Hart said, many left with restored confidence, stronger family bonds, and a brotherhood with other men on similar journeys.
“My hope is that fathers walk away transformed from the inside out,” Hart said. “I want them to gain self-awareness, practical tools, and a renewed sense of hope that they can rewrite their story.”
For Hart, this work is deeply personal. “What keeps me going is knowing the ripple effect one father can have,” he said. “When a man changes, his children’s lives change, his household shifts, and even the community feels the impact.”
Hart emphasized that fatherhood work doesn’t happen in isolation; it takes a community. “The community can support us by showing up, partnering, and investing,” he said. “That might look like referring fathers who could benefit from our programs, sponsoring events, volunteering, or simply spreading the word about the importance of fatherhood engagement. At the end of the day, it takes a village to strengthen families, and we welcome anyone who wants to be part of that effort.”
