Nerf games, songwriting, and other activities this summer at Flint Public Library

FLINT, MI–There’s a lot more than books to be found at the Flint Public Library this summer. 

Each Saturday through mid-August, the library will host a series of fun events for teens, with a wide range of interests, from Nerf games to songwriting. The library, located at 1026 E. Kearsley Street in Flint, also is hosting teen camps and babysitting training — along with its usually packed slate of events. Here’s a look at some of what you can do this summer. 

• Songwriting Basics for Teens
July 14, 3 p.m. 
Teens can learn about writing music and lyrics, and have the chance to share their own completed songs and poems in this program led by Rick Kelly. 

• Teen Tech Camp
July 17-19: 3-D printing design
July 24-26: App design
July 31-Aug. 2: Music production
All workshops go from 2-5 p.m. each of the three days and is open to youths age 12 and up. Registration is required.

• Sand Sculpting
July 21, 3 p.m. 
Learn the art of sand sculpting on the library lawn with Spencer Scharf. Tools will be provided. 

• Nerf games
July 28, 3 p.m.
Run, dodge, and outblast the competition with Nerf toys. Registration required. Limited to 50 participants. 

• Paint Wars
Aug. 4, 3 p.m. 
Wear clothes you expect to get messy as you run courses and throw paint balloons at other participants. Registration required. Limited to 30 participants. 

• Babysitter’s Academy
Aug. 15-16, 2-4 p.m.
This one isn’t on a Saturday, but is a great opportunity for teens looking for a way to make some money and be responsible while doing it. Participants can earn a Red Cross CPR and First Aid certificate while also brushing up on babysitting skills. Registration required.
