‘Local Fest’ celebrates all things Flint with food, music, and fun this weekend

FLINT, Michigan — On Saturday, July 1, Flint Local 432 will host ‘Local Fest,’ an all-day festival that aims to bring the community together to celebrate all things Flint. Going on from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., the festival is free to the public and will include food, music performances throughout the day, and multiple ways to support the community.

Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the day as all funds raised will go toward the ‘Flint Rocks: Youth Empowerment’ music program (also known as FRYE) that Flint Local 432 has partnered with and will run in July. Jordyn Anese from Flint’s radio station Z 92.7 FM will be hosting throughout the day as the festival has a set list of 19 local artists and groups, including Living AI, Midwest Ziggy, and Figga Da Kid.

Maiya LeGardye, General Manager of Flint Local 432, explained that local artists who are not on the set list will also have a chance to be included in Local Fest. “We’re offering up time to those artists who we didn’t get on the setlist this time around. They have an opportunity to send in their music to be played between performances and to be highlighted,” said LeGardye.

Since Local Fest is all about Flint and the community, the festival’s music will not stick to a specific genre and is open to all artists that have a connection to the city. “It’s a celebration of our artists, our music, our culture, our food, our people,” said LeGardye. “There are bands, rappers, solo artists, duos, and groups all on the setlist, so there is something for everybody.”

Local businesses and vendors will also be onsite, including Atomic Swan Films, Hell Mouth, and Jackman Raps Clothing as well as food trucks In and Out Tacos and Houstonz Take Out. 

For Local Fest, Flint Local 432’s mission is to connect people in the city together and praise those making a positive effort in the community. “This is really an opportunity for us all to come together and network and see what amazing things are happening in the city right now,” said LeGardye.
