FLINT, Michigan — Mott Community College (MCC) recently welcomed two new members to its Board of Trustees and re-elected another during an official swearing-in ceremony on Monday, Jan. 27. The event, which takes place every two years, also included the election of board officers and committee assignments.

Newly elected Trustees, Kenyetta Dotson of Flint and Candice Miller of Burton, joined re-elected Trustee Jeffrey Swanson of Flint in taking the oath of office, administered by Genesee County Circuit Judge Mary A. Hood.

Each trustee will serve a six-year term, concluding in 2030. Initially elected in Nov. 2022 to complete an unexpired term, Swanson secured a full term in the Nov. 2024 election.

MCC Interim President Shaunda Richardson-Snell expressed enthusiasm for the new trustees and appreciation for outgoing board members.

“I welcome our newest Trustees – Kenyetta Dotson and Candice Miller – to the Mott Community College family, as well as congratulate Jeffrey Swanson on his reelection and selection as MCC’s Board Chairperson,” said Richardson-Snell. “I know each will join me in ensuring an extraordinary student experience at Mott as we pioneer seamless pathways for all students on their educational journey. I would also like to thank former Board Chairperson Andy Everman and outgoing Trustee Michael Freeman for their years of service.”

During its Jan. 13 meeting, the board elected Swanson as Chairperson, Wendy Wolcott of Davison as Vice Chairperson, Miller as Secretary, and John H. Daly III of Flint as Treasurer. Additionally, committee assignments were announced:

Finance/Audit Committee: Chaired by Daly, with Art Reyes of Grand Blanc and a third member to be named later.
Personnel Committee: Chaired by Wolcott, with Dotson and Miller as members.
Board Policy Committee: Comprised of Wolcott and Reyes, with a third member to be named later.

The newly elected and returning trustees and the board leadership will guide MCC’s strategic initiatives and governance, ensuring continued excellence in education for the Flint and Genesee County communities.
