The South African delegation is being hosted by UM-Flint professor Otrude Moyo to see the similarities and differences of our communities — and ultimately to see their home philosophy of Ubuntu put into practice more than 8,000 miles away in Civic Park neighborhood.
When you enter Civic Park — now, you know it. There are bold signs at the entrances to the neighborhood, flags on poles along Dayton Avenue, and a mural that specifically highlights the centennial.
Free groceries, health and dental screenings, haircuts, family portraits, job resources, veteran services, shoes, and a kids’ zone will fill Bassett Park during Convoy of Hope's third annual visit to Flint. The massive resource fair and family-fun event is set for noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.
Civic Park residents are in the midst of a six to eight month process with City of Flint planners to identify their neighborhood priorities and create an action plan for moving forward. It is one of 15 neighborhood collaborations conducted so far as part of the implementation process of the city's master plan.
