Getting most of your merchandise locally and personal customer service may be seen as a more traditional way to do things, but Ryan Garrison, owner of Von Ryan's/Sleep Well mattress store on Miller Road, takes things further with the ‘authentic’ experience with little to no internet presence at all.

Students get a taste of what Genesee Career Institute has to offer

Students and parents across Genesee County gathered at the Genesee Career Institute (GCI) on Jan. 30 to familiarize themselves with the institute’s many comprehensive programs spanning numerous trade and collegiate fields including veterinary medicine, Computer-Aided Design, and cosmetology.

Hurley receives Gold Award for registering over 300 to be organ donors

The award was presented by HRSA’s Workplace Partnerships for Life Program, which works with businesses and hospitals to try to increase the number of people on state donor registries. The Gold Award was presented to only four hospitals in the state of Michigan.

National Cup winners Flint City Bucks now selling 2020 tickets

The Bucks will have a full season as well as many new opponents. Grand Rapids FC is only one of the five new clubs to join the Great Lakes Division. The others include AFC Ann Arbor, Louisville City FC, Oakland County FC, and South Bend Lions FC. Chicago FC United and West Virginia Alliance FC have been relocated to other divisions for geographical balance.

The sisterhood behind Flint’s bottled fence

The Sister Tour, created in 2017, seeks to re-establish sisterhood by giving Flint women of color a platform for their creative expression and freedom, even if that means babysitting for a couple of hours or offering a listening ear.

The event is sponsored by the Flint Islamic Center, the Flint Jewish Federation, Court Street United Methodist Church, Mott Community College, the International Center of Greater Flint, and the Arab American Heritage Council.
Hundreds expected to attend fifth annual Unity in Diversity Concert

Slated for 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, the Unity in Diversity Concert is a newfound Flint tradition that started in 2015 to combat a rise in hate crimes and racial tensions. It’s an event free to the public, with food, line dancing, and music.
