FLINT, Michigan — A transformational project that will construct a state-of-the-art athletics facility on Flint’s northside continues to receive major fundraising support.

The Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village (SBEV) has been awarded $25,000 from the Finish Line Youth Foundation Louder than Words Grant Program.

The grant is supporting a $12 million project that will allow SBEV to create a 56,000 square foot expansion of their facility that will house athletics, health, and youth development and learning programs. It will supplement programming in sports, education, art, music, and other activities that SBEV already provides to young people in the community in its current space, located at 4119 Saginaw Street.

The facility will also serve as a major and significant reinvestment in north Flint, something that will potentially pull children and families from around the city and region into the northside. In addition to offering expanded space for youth programming at SBEV, it will also be equipped to host major tournaments, performances, conferences, and other events.

So far, SBEV has received significant funding for the project, including a $500,000 donation from United Wholesale Mortgage and $250,000 from the National Football League (NFL) Foundation, Detroit Lions and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Grassroots Initiative.

Visit the SBEV website for more information about their programs or for information about the Sports Complex project.
