UM-Flint adds scholarship for students from Flint’s 4 international sister cities

The University of Michigan-Flint already draws more than 300 international students from 40 countries. These new scholarships are exclusively for students from Changchun, China; Hamilton, Canada; Kielce, Poland; and Tolyatti, Russia.

FLINT, Michigan — The University of Michigan-Flint recently announced the establishment of the Sister Cities Scholarship exclusively for students from each of Flint’s sister cities: Changchun, China; Hamilton, Canada; Kielce, Poland; and Tolyatti, Russia.

“These scholarships provide international students from our sister cities the opportunity to pursue their dream of a Michigan education right here Flint,” said Kristi Hottenstein, vice chancellor for enrollment management at UM-Flint. “UM-Flint is proud to help the city of Flint foster and sustain interaction and collaboration through higher education with these cities and the greater international community of learners.”

Students from the Sister Cities who meet admission requirements and deadlines have the opportunity to benefit from the $12,000 scholarships that are available. UM-Flint has more than 300 international students from more than 40 countries. 

“Students already come from around the world to be part of our excellent academic programs, on our campus right here in the heart of Flint,” Hottenstein said. “These scholarships will open the doors for us to welcome even more of the world’s future leaders and best.”

The Sister Cities scholarships are part of the more than $5.79 million scholarship dollars the university made available to students this year.
