FLINT, Michigan — Veronica Triplett introduces herself as an artist led by God. The Flint native is a mother of three who shares her story of survival through a 17-year-long DV relationship in her healing journal, Unshaken, which focuses on recovery from intimate partner violence. Her story relates to many of the unheard experiences of women in our own community. Triplett recounts seeing herself in the position of the young girls who frequently return to abusive partners and become numb to their pain, often afraid to share it with others.

“I’ve never talked about domestic violence in such a large capacity,” shares Triplett. Unshaken uses prompts, affirmations, and prayers to teach women to reclaim their worth and power. Triplett releases Unshaken during Domestic Violence Awareness month to offer hope to women who have been in similar circumstances.

In 2018, when Triplett first became an author, she did not know that her work would become focused on sharing her story of healing and trauma. Initially, Triplett’s books were exclusively urban fiction. Now, she fills the pages of her journals with words of vulnerability, inspiration, and change. Her last three pieces have been a response to a divine assignment. “I am purpose-driven for sure,” asserts Triplett when asked about the inspiration behind her journals. She believes God placed these books on her heart and called her to share them with others.

Writing has become a gift that allows her to pour back into Flint. “I have so many journals that I’ve written and have not published yet…they are really just guided by God, and by the community,” Triplett explains that she hopes to publish her journals for youth and men soon. Her children, ages 25, 18, and 14, continue to be her motivation to share her truth to empower others. Unshaken is one of five books Triplett has authored.

In 2023, Triplett released her first journal. The Journey of Pain and Purpose: A Woman’s Guide to Overcoming teaches readers to transform negative experiences into positive plans. She opens this journal by sharing her own encounters with peer pressure, defeat, and other forms of pain. Acknowledging this shared perspective with her audience allows Triplett to reduce stigma around negative emotions associated with trauma.

“I talk about things from family issues to self-sabotage, but I also talk about planning within yourself, evolution, and redemption,” Triplett says while summarizing her first journal. She emphasizes the importance of sharing resources and hope after sharing pain and hardships. Triplett uses these journals to remind readers that they are not alone in their struggles.

Earlier this year, Triplett published her second journal, The Journey of Desperation to Integration: Emancipation of RONIE. This faith-based journal encourages readers to learn confidence through self-investment. Triplett shares life lessons that have enabled her to grow into the person she is today. Each journal is faith-based and guided by scripture. Specific lesson plans are also available as study guides.

All three publications can be checked out at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library and are available for purchase on Amazon and on her website.

Triplett’s entrepreneurship also extends to speaking engagements, programming, and one-on-one coaching. When asked about what the future brings, Triplett announces, “I want to partner with local nonprofit organizations to continue building.” Her vision emphasizes connection to others to understand shared experiences. Through her work, she can build communities of support.

The ‘Unshaken’ book signing will be held at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library on Friday, Oct. 24, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Stay connected to Triplett on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
