Election volunteers in Flint were excited to see so many new voters in the city this year and are expecting record-setting turnout once all ballots are counted.

United Way of Genesee County will hold its third annual Martin Luther King Jr. volunteer event on Monday, Jan. 20 when 600 volunteers will pack 200,000 meals, up from the initial goal of 150,000.

Next Monday will commemorate the 25th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a national day of service by Congress and a total of 200,000 pre-packaged meals will be given to families in need.

Free turkey dinner serving hope to Flint families

Well of Hope will host more than 50 volunteers from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Center of Hope to serve families a complete turkey dinner with dressing, macaroni and cheese, yams and all the fixings. Oh, and there will also be socks. Lots and lots of socks.

The new signature event is considered Catholic Charities' fundraising event of the year. More than 50 unique chairs crafted by local groups, artists and students from Catholic schools throughout the community will be up for auction during the event on Saturday, Nov. 9.

It’s not just about raising money; it’s about changing lives at Flint-area United Way

The United Way of Genesee and Shiawassee Counties kicked off its 2019 fundraising campaign on Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Flint Farmers' Market — setting a goal of impacting 100,000 lives through the dollars raised through donations, a few dollars at a time.
