Flint’s historic Whaley House to reopen after renovations from 2015 fire
The house, which dates back to 1859, will be reopened to the public June 24.
FLINT, MI–Flint’s historic Whaley House is scheduled to reopen.
The house, which dates back to 1859, was damaged in a 2015 fire and, after about two and a half years of renovations, will be reopened to the public June 24.
The Grand Re-Opening Event will take place from 2-5 p.m. at the Whaley House, located at 624 E. Kearsley St. in Flint.
The fire was restricted to the third floor of the house, which was used for artifact storage. The majority of artifacts were in a separate area from the fire and were removed and saved, but smoke and water damage was extensive throughout the house.
Several parts of the house had to be renovated, including the roof, new walls and plaster, and wallpaper.
A $1.8 million settlement, several fundraisers, and grant money helped pay for the restoration, which began in the spring of 2017.
