FLINT, Michigan — Dr. Shan Jackson is a powerhouse mentor, health and wellness expert, and visionary CEO of Healthy Just Feels Right, a movement transforming how communities experience holistic health and wellness. Motivated by her faith and her own experiences navigating physical and mental health imbalances, Dr. Jackson’s journey began as a teenager in therapy, where she learned how nutritional deficiencies were directly affecting her cognition, emotions, and overall well-being. That early awareness shaped a lifelong commitment to education, access, and lived experience as pillars of wellness.

“There is no such thing as skipping steps. As long as I stay connected to God’s purpose, I turn every L into a lesson. Eventually, they turn into blessings,” Dr. Jackson shared during the 2023 Genesee District Library Black History Brunch.

Now, years later, her work continues to be recognized across the region. Dr. Jackson has received numerous awards for her service and impact, including the Partner in Prevention Award from the Genesee County Prevention Coalition, the Sisters Supporting Sisters Phenomenal Woman Award, and the Minority-Owned Business of the Year Award presented by the Flint & Genesee Group, among others.

I witnessed Dr. Jackson’s impact firsthand at a mentorship gathering for middle school girls at Burton Glen Charter Academy. She opened the session by inviting each eighth-grade girl to share her story, emphasizing the power of voice and self-definition. The room quickly filled with emotion as students realized they were being given space to speak freely—something many had rarely experienced.

As students shared dreams of becoming athletes, beauticians, or nurses, Dr. Jackson met them with affirmation and encouragement. When uncertainty surfaced, she gently redirected the conversation toward passion and purpose, asking students to reflect on what they love and what drives them.

“I have things to do, people to impress, and places to go. This means that this year can mean whatever I manifest it to be,” she said, reinforcing the importance of agency and belief in one’s future.

Students from the Burton Glen Charter Academy 8th Grade Girls Mentorship Program later described the experience as life-changing.

Dr. Jackson’s commitment to education also extends into professional and career-focused spaces. Dr. Jackson is scheduled to facilitate a session, in partnership with the Genesee Intermediate School District, on Friday, March 20, 2026, to connect Health Science and Culinary Arts students. Hosted at the Genesee Career Institute and open to students, administrators, and instructors, the rescheduled event will take place across three sessions—7:00 a.m., 8:50 a.m., and 12:05 p.m.—and will center on nutrition, wellness, and holistic health for future community workers.

Across three sessions, students engaged in real-world learning experiences designed to deepen their understanding of holistic home health and its relevance across career paths. Dr. Jackson encouraged critical thinking and practical application both inside and outside the classroom.

Beyond mentorship and programming, Dr. Jackson is also a prolific author, with 13 published books. One of her children’s titles, Rainbow Power, was inspired by a dream in which healthy foods came to life. What began as a late-night note in a composition notebook became a story that translates the importance of healthy eating into language children can easily understand.

Drawing from her own experiences, Dr. Jackson emphasizes intentional nourishment as a tool for improving memory, energy, and overall well-being—areas often misunderstood in children. Today, she applies that expertise to coaching parents and families as they make realistic lifestyle changes to support mental, physical, and behavioral health.

Dr. Jackson’s impact also reaches beyond the United States. Healthy Just Feels Right Week was established in May 2023 in Kingston, Jamaica, where it is celebrated annually during National Child Month. As a dual citizen, Dr. Jackson integrates cultural relevance into her advocacy, promoting lifelong wellness while amplifying Jamaican stories and experiences.

Wherever she goes, Dr. Shan Jackson leaves a lasting impression—empowering minds, amplifying voices, and redefining what healthy living can look like in communities that have historically been underserved. Her work affirms that access to wellness, education, and opportunity is not a privilege, but a right.
