FLINT, Michigan — The Midwest Invitational Rodeo will return to Genesee County this month, bringing two days of rodeo competition, cultural celebration, vendors, entertainment, and family-friendly activities to the Everett A. Cummings Center.

The event is scheduled for Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13, at 6130 E. Mt. Morris Road in Mt. Morris Township. Shows begin at 7 p.m. each night.

Now in its third year in Genesee County, the Midwest Invitational Rodeo highlights the history and contributions of African American cowboys and cowgirls while showcasing the skill and tradition of rodeo culture. Events are expected to feature cowboy and cowgirl competitions, food and merchandise vendors, and entertainment for residents and visitors.

“We are more than excited to welcome back the Midwest Invitational Rodeo and are happy to see this event activate multiple locations throughout the county,” says Amari Steward, executive director of Explore Flint & Genesee, the county’s convention & visitors bureau, supported by the Genesee County Board of Commissioners. “This year’s event is going to be bigger and better and will showcase not only the uniqueness of Black cowboy and cowgirl culture, but the uniqueness of Flint & Genesee.”

The Genesee County Board of Commissioners is sponsoring the event, which county leaders say brings cultural value and economic activity to the region. Genesee County is one of two communities hosting the Midwest Invitational Rodeo in 2026.

The rodeo is a family-centered experience designed to preserve and celebrate African American rodeo heritage. The event also provides opportunities for vendors, contestants, and sponsors to participate in the broader cultural and community experience.

“The Midwest Invitational Rodeo brings excitement to Genesee County in a truly unique way,” said Dale K. Weighill, Chairman of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners. “As presenting sponsor, we are proud to support an event that celebrates the spirit of rodeo while welcoming visitors from across the region to be a part of our rich history of sports and recreation. We look forward to seeing this event become a springtime tradition in Genesee County for years to come.”

Tickets and additional information are available through the Midwest Invitational Rodeo website.
