Destiny Power Center to host 1st Annual Hope & Healing Summit

FLINT, Michigan — Destiny Power Center (DPC) will host a free mental health summit at the Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village on Saturday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Hope & Healing Summit will focus on the topics of mental health and self-care and give participants educational tools and resources to help change the mental state of the community and reduce the suicide rate.

Sponsors of the event include the Hurley Foundation, Pathways 2 Counseling, National Council of Negro Women-Detroit Section, Molina Healthcare, and Twin Peaks 28.

“As a result of the pandemic and its mental impact, we have partnered with several community activists to launch its very first mental health summit,” said Calvin Ray Martin, Executive Director of Destiny Power Center. “This summit is designed to change the mental state of the community and offer resources and tools that will reduce the suicide rate and educate and empower individuals of all ages to dream again.”
 
Licensed counselors, therapists, community leaders, and activists will be present at the summit, and workshops and panel discussions for men, women, and youth/teens ages 10-17. An array of vendors will also be present including insurance companies, community agencies, and nonprofit organizations.
