Dreamz Two Reality hosts 2nd annual Back Two School Basketball Camp at Hamady High
The 2nd annual Back Two School Camp gave Flint youth skills, supplies, and support for a strong start to the school year.

FLINT, Michigan — A free basketball camp at Hamady High School was held on Saturday, Aug. 16, giving local kids both a skills boost and school-year essentials as they prepare to head back to class.
The 2nd annual Back Two School Basketball Camp & Backpack Giveaway, organized by Roy Jackson Jr. and his Dreamz Two Reality Basketball program, brought together about 50 to 60 boys and girls ages 9 to 13 for a three-hour afternoon of hands-on training.
Jackson, who played college basketball and professionally overseas, said the goal is to combine the love of the game with practical support for Flint families.
“My experience working with local youth has driven me to create an annual event that offers a unique opportunity for them to develop important skills in a fun and engaging environment,” said Jackson. “At the same time, they receive backpacks and school supplies to ensure they are well-prepared for the upcoming academic year, thereby easing the financial pressure on parents.”
Participants walked away with medals, certificates, and backpacks full of supplies, all free of charge. The event also provided food and essentials, turning a day of basketball into what Jackson called “a well-rounded boost for students as they get ready to return to school.”

For Jackson, seeing kids and families show up year after year is a personal highlight. “It’s incredibly fulfilling for me to put together this complimentary event, observing the delight on the children’s faces, knowing their parents aren’t burdened with expenses, and still, their child gains a rich experience and expert knowledge from a professional who has walked in their shoes 20 years ago,” he said.
Beyond jump shots and defense drills, Jackson hopes participants take home lessons about teamwork, communication, and adaptability. “My ultimate aim is to unify the youth, thereby fostering a cultural shift for the future,” he said.

This year’s camp was made possible through support from Dort Financial Credit Union, Team One Credit Union, Destini Beautii, TRG, Reaching Our Youth, Smooth Steppers, and Rojo Talent.
Looking ahead, Jackson says he envisions Dreamz Two Reality Basketball becoming one of the state’s premier camps.
“The objective is for every young male and female athlete to acquire skills that will enable them to reach the college level and potentially professional one day,” he said.
