FLINT, Michigan — Flint residents are being asked to help determine the future of city parks as part of a major community investment tied to the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation’s centennial celebration.

Through a new online platform, residents can vote on which Flint parks they would most like to see improved and share ideas for potential upgrades, including playground equipment, public art, gathering spaces, seating, and amenities for older adults.

Community members can submit feedback for up to three parks at mott.org/parks through June 6.

Residents who prefer to participate in person will also have an opportunity to share ideas during the Mott Foundation Centennial Family Fun Days, scheduled for June 6 from noon to 6 p.m. on the Flint Cultural Center campus.

The feedback initiative is part of the Mott Foundation’s broader $20 million investment in Flint parks and playgrounds announced earlier this year in recognition of the foundation’s 100th anniversary.

In February, the foundation committed more than $7 million in the initiative’s first phase to support playground upgrades at five Flint Community Schools elementary schools. Community feedback gathered through the new voting platform will help guide the next phase, focused on city parks.

The goal is to ensure residents play a direct role in shaping neighborhood spaces.

“Flint residents know their neighborhoods and their parks better than anyone,” Mott Foundation President and CEO Ridgway White said in a statement. “It’s important to us that residents have a real say in how they’re improved.”

City and county leaders also emphasized the role parks play in strengthening neighborhoods and creating spaces for recreation and connection.

The Mott Foundation said it will work alongside the City of Flint, Genesee County Parks, and additional partners to evaluate project feasibility and future improvements.

Questions about the process can be directed to parksandplaygrounds@mott.org or 810-238-5651.
