FLINT, Michigan — As part of National Gun Violence Awareness Day, Flint residents are invited to take part in a community event aimed at honoring lives lost and promoting unity. The North Flint Neighborhood Action Council (NFNAC), in partnership with The Safe Place Initiative, will host ‘Paint a Stone in Honor of Those Lost to Gun Violence on Friday, June 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Pulaski Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Open to people of all ages, the event offers community members the chance to paint stones in remembrance of loved ones and neighbors impacted by gun violence. The stones will form a public tribute, symbolizing both personal grief and collective commitment to ending violence in Flint.

“This is a time for our community to come together — whether you’ve lost someone or want to stand in solidarity,” said Geri Clark, board chair of NFNAC. “Your presence sends a message that we care, we remember, and we are committed to change.”

All painting supplies will be provided, and volunteers will be available to assist participants throughout the event.

Organizers say the goal is not only to honor those who have been lost but also to uplift survivors and promote a culture of awareness and healing. The visual memorial will serve as a reminder of the ongoing toll of gun violence and the strength of a community determined to create a safer future.
