Genesee District Library announces Black History Month Brunch honorees

The Genesee District Library will honor former Flint Mayor Karen Weaver, teacher Melinda Anderson, and advocate Recco Richardson at its annual Black History Month brunch in February.

A mayor, a teacher and an advocate will be celebrated by the Genesee District Library at the 19th Annual Black History Month Brunch.

The brunch is 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at the Genesys Conference & Banquet Center, 805 Health Park Blvd., Grand Blanc.

Receiving the Award of Excellence at the event are former Flint Mayor Karen Weaver, teacher Melinda Anderson and advocate Dr. Recco Richardson.

Also being honored with the Partner in Progress Award is the community organization, Ivy House, which offers assistance to those in need in the areas of education, health, family and civic responsibility.

Gospel singer and Stellar Award Winner Casey J from Atlanta will also be featured at the brunch.

Since 2002, the Genesee District Library has hosted the event to honor people within the community who are making a positive difference as well as acknowledging the contributions African-Americans have made to world history.

Tickets cost $35, and go on sale December 2 at the Genesee District Library’s Headquarters Branch, or online at www.thegdl.org. For more information, call 810-230-9613.

Part of the proceeds from the event will benefit the library’s Summer Reading Challenge, which reaches nearly 10,000 children and adults in Genesee County.
