FLINT, Michigan — The Flint & Genesee Group’s Women in Action employee resource group and the Flint & Genesee Chamber’s Women’s Leadership Committee will host a luncheon celebrating Women’s Equality Day on August 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Genesys Banquet and Conference Center in Grand Blanc.

Women’s Equality Day, observed annually on August 26, marks the adoption of the 19th Amendment and honors the women’s suffrage movement. This year’s event, themed “Together We Will,” will feature talks from three local women leaders.

Nancy Edwards, who recently became AFL-CIO Labor Liaison for the United Way of Genesee County after a 24-year career with the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission, and Jillian Macey, the second woman in history to hold the rank of captain with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, will both take the stage.

Featured speaker Carrie Edwards-Clemons, Fire Chief for the City of Lansing and former Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Flint, will also share her experience as the first woman to hold several leadership roles throughout her career.

“Flint & Genesee is home to many strong, successful women who are leading the way in their workplaces, industries, and communities,” said Sandra Etherly-Johnson, chief community engagement officer at the Flint & Genesee Group. “We’re excited to hear from some of these professionals, who will share their own experiences while inspiring others to continue breaking barriers and creating opportunities for women today and tomorrow.”

Mid-Michigan NOW reporter and anchor Courtney Bennett will emcee the event, alongside several members of the Women in Action employee resource group.

“This event really underscores the power of ERGs in the workplace,” Etherly-Johnson said. “Not only do they foster a sense of belonging, but they also create opportunities for professional growth and leadership development. In this case, several employees helped shape the direction of the event and will even take the stage as speakers.”

The cost of attendance is $30 through August 25. You can learn more and register on Flint & Genesee’s website.
