FLINT, Michigan — Starting Jan. 10 through Jan. 25, artist Andrew Rieder‘s exhibition titled “Absolved of Essence Through Obsolescence” will be featured by Mott Community College’s (MCC) Fine Arts Gallery utilizing mixed-media works on canvas.

Rieder states that “this series of mixed media pieces conveys to the viewer that many (if not all) of us are contending with a sense of insufficiency. I also want the audience to gain an understanding of how one’s own struggles can at times be too overwhelming to empathize with the struggles of another.”

Rieder’s work has been featured in the Paul Collins Gallery, Saginaw Art Museum, Studio 23, Buckham Gallery, and others across the country. His work dives into concepts of work ethic and the various ways in which it is quantified.

Besides being an artist, Rieder is an Associate Professor of Art & Design at Delta College and has worked in the Great Lakes Region since 2010. He also holds a Master of Fine Arts from Michigan State University, a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, in addition to a Bachelor’s of Art & Design North Carolina State University’s College of Design.

In addition to his “Absolved of Essence Through Obsolescence” exhibition, Rieder will present an Art Talk available digitally through MCC’s Fine Arts Gallery page in collaboration with Ballenger Trust. The Art Talk will start on Jan. 14 at 10 a.m.

Due to COVID-19, the art gallery will operate in a limited capacity. Therefore, all visitors are expected to follow the MCC Standards and perform the Mandatory Health and Wellness Check before traveling to MCC.
